Clear the Air Climate Change Series

This poster series was created for the Cross-Cultural Design course, in which students from the United States would design a social awareness campaign for a social issue in China, and vice versa. The concept is based on visualizing how much a single vehicle pollutes the air, and how one person taking their vehicle off of the road can make a change and help the environment. The research I conducted shows that the average commute to work puts about 4.3 kg. or 9.5 lbs. of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. The typography is in both English and Mandarin, in order to communicate to both audiences. The imagery in the poster quantifies our impact on the environment, by showing a huge cloud of exhaust coming out of different types of vehicles, such as motorcycles, cars, and military vehicles. The artwork in the posters is painted in a traditional watercolor style to communicate better with the audience. I painted the smoke in black and white to represent the pollution and destruction of the clean environment being created by fossil-fueled vehicles.
