Rust-Oleum is an American manufacturer of protective paints and coatings for home and industrial use, and was founded in 1921 by Robert Fergusson. Throughout the years, Rust-Oleum has gone through several branding changes, but their packaging has remained relatively the same during that time. This is a problem as currently, Rust-Oleum’s is retaining their older demographic, whilst their new target audience is generally younger. I decided to modernize their packaging, while also retaining their brand identity. I decided to use geometric elements and overprinting, taking influence from the Bauhaus and Memphis schools of design, and utilizing these elements throughout the packaging. The design elements are also repeated in the depicted furniture, showing the product in use, as well. I also colored the metal housing surrounding the nozzle, to match the color of the product.
